Library searching for two board members
By Carole Howard and the Library Staff
If you have some business skills, want to give something back to your community and consider the library one of the most significant institutions in our society, we might have a job for you.
The Sisson Library has two openings for three-year terms on the Board of Trustees in 2008. This is a volunteer position – no monetary compensation but lots of job satisfaction. The board meets monthly on the third Wednesday of every month, usually at 6 p.m.
Unlike the board of directors of a corporation which represents shareholders, a board of a nonprofit organization is the governance group that ensures the nonprofit’s mission is fulfilled and the organization is held accountable to its main stakeholders – the public. Their principal function is to set policies consistent with the public mission of the organization, select managers who can carry out the mission, and monitor the performance of the organization so that public welfare is maximized.
Those are fancy words, and the responsibilities are significant. Here are the qualifications we are looking for:
If you are interested in pursuing one of these two board seats, please send a letter of interest to Jackie Welch, the library director. For further information, talk with her or call Kay Grams, chair of the board, at 264-4680 or Betsy Chavez, secretary, at 264-2614 in the evenings.
Interior design program
Tess Challis will be giving a free, informal workshop on the role of color in interior design at the library on Thursday, February 7 at 5:30 p.m. Among the topics discussed will be how to choose the right colors for your home, different color schemes, and how to set any mood with the right colors. Tess urges you to bring any design questions you have to the session. She has been in the interior design field for more than 10 years, with particular experience in the furniture industry, specialized lighting, new home design, staging and remodeling.
